Damping

Damping of drums
Each drummer during tuning the set encountered various undesirable tones, which more or less affected the drum sound. Here are some tips and advice.
Problem with tom tomes
Tomes are especially exposed to unwanted tones after tuning the drum. Much depends on the acoustics of the room, the drum class, the tension used and the tuning skills. On the Stagg market there are already available drawers with built-in silencers. You can meet Remo and Evans. Remo offers Emperor, and Evans EC2S, formerly EC2. These tensions have the aforementioned suppressors. Remo has a thin round strap, while Evans has a thicker damping ring. Some suppressors mute drums that so-called Erings These are the rings that overlap the drum. They are ideally suited to the size of the drum and allow you to dampen undesirable tones. But there are opinions that say that this ring kills the drum sound. This is a complete question of taste because there is no rule for it. The last method is quite unusual and popular way of damping thanks to wipes and tape. A piece of handkerchief is glued to a given location on the drum tension and then sealed with tape. This method also absorbs unwanted tones and making the drum sound better. The disadvantage of this method is, however, aesthetics, which for some may be particularly important.
Problem with floor tom.
Floor tom is more advanced drum than tomes. It is supposed to give the maximum possible fleshy sound. Such drums tune relatively low. Tomes in contrast to the floor tomes are not so difficult to properly tuned and attenuated, so floor tomes can often be muted also from the resonant tension to get a full, powerful sound without unnecessary long echoes. There are also cases where very often the tensions with built-in muting rings are used, and even more are laid eringi, but these are extremely rare cases encountered.
Problem with snare drums.
Snare drums often have it to themselves that they have the ringing sound. Someone like this sound and try to emphasize it while tuning, while others are very disturbed so they are trying to mute the snare. Snare drums are muted using overlays or by using handkerchief options.

Problem with bass drum
The control panel is the least problematic during tuning. It does not require special skills or special muting treatments. The center can be tuned to point-click or fleshy sound. Some straps have factory-built rings with suppressing sponges. Evans offers tensions like Evans Emad, Emad2, GMAD and more. They have the aforementioned collar for damping foam. The kit usually consists of two suppressing rings- narrower and wider. Remo has a very popular Powerstroke 3, which has a built-in damping ring that looks like a rounded line.. The above mentioned tensions of Evans have much thicker flanges and rings, which give a wider range of attenuation. GMAD tensions are not recommended for better drums , as they can to much damp and kill the drum sound too much. However, they are capable of producing a lot of the bottom and make that sound will have a character. . Evans Emad and Emad2 are recommended for drums from the middle to professional shelf. Emad from Emada2 is different in that Emad has one layer, and Emad2 has two. Often you may encounter the situation that the central has a tension other than the factoy, ie from Remo, Evans, Aquarian. These tensions are better than the factory ones and they allow you to tune the drum even better and pull the better sound. Often, they have built-in in microphone input damping rings, which are also intended to strengthen the hole. The last recommended way of muting is a damping cushion. Somone used ordinary pillows or blankets. . Aesthetically and comfortably, it is better to purchase a fitted damping cushion that will not fly in tensions during transporting . This cushion or suppressor sponge is designed to give the characteristic sound which is more focused , and to allow more bottom. This is a very cool option and certainly is able to successfully surprise many musicians.
To sum up.
As you can see the damping of the drums is not always an easy task. You have to ask yourself what are you expect from drum, what sound you want to get, and what music you want to play. As far as possible time and willingness, it is worth to try out various damping methods that will allow you to match the most optimal and comfortable option for you. If there is good acoustics of your room, you needn't damping the drums such strongly , but such a treatment will still allow you to enjoy with the sound and pull out cool sounds.
